Woman Who Accepted Death With Smile

Today’s story is of a woman who worked as small time clerk in Indian Railways. She had family of 6 , with two daughters and two sons.

Born in orissa and working in Gujarat , Ashnaji was a very strong and cheerful lady. She was always full of life and once you met her , you can’t miss meeting her again.

Life was good till she was detected from cancer. Detection was bit too late. “Cancer” word itself scars people and for those who are detected from it , its like going to die , thought dominate brain.

She did undergo all treatments from operation to chemo. Doctors knew she would die and so did she. But the way she accepted reality is what makes me write this story.

Her hairs were gone because of chemo , she had difficulty to talk to but she would always have smile to greet anyone who would visit her. She wont talk about her disease and would always be more concerned about things important for visitor. Cheerful ashnaji , would try to joke, laugh and remain as lively as she could without even making one feel that she might not last for another year.

When often asked about her cancer , she would reply -’See everyone has to die some day , I am lucky to know how much time I have. So that is good part of it’.

Six months back ashnaji died but her last months did give message to all. Daily our clock is ticking but we must try to bring joy to every one we meet in life. Life in uncertain but we all must try to fill this with joy, doing good to us , our family and people in general.

May ashnaji’s soul rest in peace.
