Media was super active since yesterday. Dr Manmohan Singh was planning cabinet reshuffle and media was actively speculating about how Dr Manmohan Singh would go about it. One news channel made headlines calling ‘Frustrated By scams , price rise , pm seeks cabinet change’ ,another said ‘Angry PM seeks cabinet change’ , while another said ‘Young guns might get to have a shot as PM seeks cabinet change’.
As Prime minister went for cabinet reshuffle , it was more like changing batting orders of cricket team which is not doing as expected. In cricket a captain gets 14 odd people from whom he decides playing eleven. If team does not do well consistently ,he is left with no option but to reshuffle batting orders and keeping his fingers crossed for performance. It is similar to what ganguly used to do by sending dravid to open or make him wicket keeper before India found good opening pair.
No minister lost his post but yes his/her office address did change with portfolios being resuffled. Only three new faces made it into team of UPA-2 .Beni Prasad verma , KC Venugopal and Ashwani kumar made it into list of union ministers.
Praful patel who held independent charge of minister of state aviation was promoted to cabinet ranks and he would not be seeing heavy Industries and Public enterprises while shriprakash Jaiswal would be coal minister and salman khursheed would be water resources minister. Salman would keep additional charge of minority affairs.
The most debated minister , sharad pawar was relieved from charge of consumer affairs and food,civil supplies but he remains agriculture minister.
PM in picture abhi baaki hai mere dost fashion said that we as country would see major changes in cabinet after budget session.
Problem with having collations is that one can’t do much about allies. Minister from ally must remain or do something what Raja did to get out of cabinet ministry. Let us hope dear Prime minister does something about better governance with is less corrupted and better performing.
