What A Match : Bangalore Beats Punjab

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

“T-20 is not a cricket “. These statements are time and again uttered by experts of cricket who themselves have been masters of cricket and have been fabulous players during their eras.

Well one thing is sure about T-20 , its exciting and it might not be technically correct way of batting but it is pinnacle of essence of cricket and that is unpredictability.

IPL-Season 3 have seen few one sided matches but it has seen many closely fought matches where game has been turn around in a way which even best of experts could not have predicted.

Consider decaan charger’s match against KKR. It seemed deccan would cruise its way to victory before being brought back to ground and finally nailed by KKR.

While mumbai Indian v/s rajasthan saw yusuf single handely taking game away from mumbai till he unfortunately got out , today’s match was classic game of t-20.

Punjab did everything right as far as its batting goes. Score of 202 in twenty overs is big total. Bopara and bisla batted awesomely and it looked like punjab would have its first victory of the tournament.

But kahani mein twist tha. Pandey batted like way he can and smashed quick fire 38 of 26 balls. Kallis batted sensibly and robin was at his best scoring 50 runs in 19 balls. Once robin deparated kallis showed his class smashing ballers over the park to make 89 not out of 55 balls, hitting 5 sixes in this innings. Virat too remained notout scoring 16 of 12 balls and bangalore reached home with one over to spare.

What a match and display of exciting batting by all batsmans.

Expect The Unexpected : IPL 3 Begins With Thriller

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Grand opening ceremony followed by highly unpredictable match saw opening of ipl season 3.

Deccan chargers , the defending champions won the toss and did send Kolkatta knight riders to bat.

KKR began like only KKR can. Losing two quick wickets in very first over is worst start that one can get. Tiwari is having tough times other than ranjis and dada didnt show any dadagiri in hitting runs. He went for zero . KKR zero runs for 2 wickets!!!!!!.

Hoge and pujara were looking to consolidate but they too went out when score was mere 31. KKR’s score read 31/4. It seemed like karbo ladbo jeetvo might end scoring lowest score in ipl.

Then what we all saw was epic partnership in 20-20. Unbeaten partnership of 130 runs shared between mathews and owais shah led kkr to respectable total of 160 runs.

In came deccans and they began in fashion they are known for. Gilchrist is exceptional batsman. The way he was batting , it didnt look like he has retired from the game. He still has ability to take game away from opponent.

Gilli was supported by elegant laxman. Deccans were cruising and it looked like another gilli v/s opponent team show , but laxman got out at 22 and deccan’s score read 61/1.

Gilli still went strong and made another half century. Gilchrist is just 18 odd runs short to become first batsman to score thousands runs in IPL. Once gilchrist went , the turn around began. The run rate was slowly rising and short selections of deccans was poor ones. Symonds and rohit’s dismissal was directly from book called how not to bat!!!!!!!.

Deccan soon lost their way and were required to score 18 runs from final over. They could manage only six runs and lost by 11 runs.

Ganguly didn’t do good job as batsman but his captaincy was right on spot. Bowling changes , field placings were really good.

Yesterday’s thriller was perfect as per theme of kkr , karbo, ladbo, jeetvo. Largely yesterday’s match can be divided in 4 sessions. When kkr was batting first session of ten overs clearly belonged to deccans , while second session of 10 overs mathews , supported by shah stole the show. Similarly when deccans batted , first session of ten overs belonged to gilli while last session kkr fought back and won.

IPL-3 could not have asked for better start. Deccans are defending champions and kkr were underdogs , but expect the unexpected in IPL Season 3.
