Anna Hazare , the man who captured imagination of India and World has now hinted of providing political alternative the nation. Whether anna himself would form a political party with he himself entering the scene or would it be supporting parties like Dr Jayprakash Narayan’s loksatta would get clearer in days to come.
In one and half years India Against Corruption Movement has seen most phases that any movement sees in decade. Right from built up to huge following to disillusionment to idea of getting into politics.
From apolitical movement of jan lok pal bill , now it can turn out to be full fledged political movement with prospects of themselves being candidate in election 2014.
Today every news channel was debating anna’s announcement . Most where seen discussing , how ,what and whys about it. In poll conducted by zee news over 90% people said that team anna must enter politics , while in on going poll in cnn-ibn to question ‘will you back anna as politician’ , 62% people said yes.
So the big question is would team anna’s entry in politics make any difference in current set up of politics?. The current system which is largely seen to be dominated of issues like caste, religion and where corruption seems to be lesser importance when it comes to voting , would team anna be able to deal with such system?.
Personally I believe that there is vacuum in Indian political system inspite of so many political parties in India. Today politics has become synonyms of money and self interest rather than service.
The grand old party called congress has had little competition in 127 years. Only real challenge they have faced is from right wing , first in form of muslim league and second from BJP. But neither Muslim league before Independence nor BJP after independence have been able to strike cord in every corner of India.
Though BJP has presence more or less in every part of India , it has still to find acceptance in kerala , tamil nadu , andhra , assam , nagaland, west bengal and kashmir where they hardly manage to win any seats.
It is true that Congress is no more as strong as it used to be during lal bhadur shastri days and today it is reduced to depend on regional parties to form government at center , it is also true that in today political environment , no party is expected to win majority on its own.
2014 does seem to be though election for congress and BJP must rist (if they play their cards well) but still we would have room for new political party .
BJP and congress are ideological two different school of thoughts , but here question is less about ideology and more about transparency.
Team Anna which gave hope to crores can provide that alternative of transparency in politics and less influence of money and muscle power .
But game of politics is totally different than being apolitical group. Politics is not 2+2 game , it is far more complex and perhaps brutal world. It wont be easy and path is throny. With all political parties welcoming anna’s decision , it is more about they (political parties) playing the game in their home turf than dealing with anna in jantar mantar.
I welcome the decision of team anna to enter the system and I hope they can change the system by being part of it but I dont expect any miracles over night. Team Anna would barely make difference in 2014 but if they stay on their path of having jan lok pal , right to reject and transparent politics , in future they can be serious competition for congress and BJP…
