What Is India’s Number One Problem?

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

What is India’s number one problem?. The second fastest moving economy is facing lot of problems and issues which needs to be tackled .

Lets first list down some of problems which nation of more than billion people is facing

1) Terrorism :

India is facing terrorism in Jammu & Kashmir and northeast states. The punjab’s insurgeny dies long back but terror groups of punjab are in dormant stage and looking to re ignite their terror spree in punjab and other parts of India.

2) Naxalism :

Naxal is biggest threat to internal security of India according to our Prime minister and home minister . Naxals are ruthless , violent in their approach and want to dethrone democracy in India.

3) Extremism :

Extremism is slowly prevailing among two biggest communities of India. These extremism needs to be tackled soon before it get too big.

4) Social Problems :

Caste is still a big issue and thousand years of programming is refusing to get de programmed anytime soon. Status of woman is some parts of India is far from encouraging.

5) Natural Resources :

Population is increasing (this is one thing in which India never sees down turn!!!!!!) . Increasing population and migration of people to big cities is going to be big problem in India. Already delhi sees power cuts and mumbai sees water problem. If not managed properly this might lead to very problematic issue.

6) Poverty and hunger Index :

We all are proud that we are fast developing country but some figures are shocking and one of them is that 300 million Indians dont get two time meal!!!!!!!!!. India is land of largest poor in the world.

Above are some of problems which India faces but these are not number one problem of India. Number one problem for India is corruption.

Constitution of India is one of best documents that world has ever seen. It covers everything and provide provision for everything which enables normal citizen to live respectable live.

Our governments (both state and center) do also come up with policies to make sure that Indian citizen’s live get bettered.

But corruption doesnot make that happen. Corruption doesnot let constitution get implemented in its principal , corruption doesnot let money reach to places it is meant for .

If one takes not of all major problems which India faces , some where its roots are directly , indirectly linked with corruption.

From getting admission in schools to getting job in government to getting tender cleared to dealing with police , corruption has become way of life.

Corruption creates feeling of lack of justice and disappointment which is often used by radicals against India.

A leading media showed how one can make ration card by giving 5000 Rs . Now we can understand how secure we are thanks to corruption in India.

Rajiv Gandhi had famously said that every rupee government spends on 15 paisa reaches where it is supposed to reach!!!!!!!!!!.

We can understand that inspite of massive initiatives why we still have highest number of poors in India.

Naxals is prevalent in under developed belts in India and to understand how corruption has played its part in naxalism we need to understand how nexus of police , landlords and government officials have worked in those belts.

If corruption in handled majority of problems in India can be dealt with because citizens having prosperous life would be united , alert and more interested in dealing with all problems that nation faces.

We need all out war on corruption to achieve Indian Dream.

Women Reservation Bill : What’s There To Debate?

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Indian women , the pillar of Indian Families. India is perhaps only place in the world other than nepal where goddess are worshipped. Women have played important role since thousands of years in India as we know today.

Be it be ahiliya , sita , draupadi or razia sultan or maharani laxmi bai in first independence movement or sarojini naidu , anne beasant in freedom struggle or Indira gandhi as prime minister or present day sonia , mamta and maya. Women have been part of politics , administration and formation of policies in India.

Women have played huge part in culture and all walks of life.  Kiran bedi , President pratibha patil , kasturba gandhi , ela bhatt, barkha dutta are few of numerous name who have made difference in their own way and contributed to diverse India.

India has around 600 million females and inspite of 63 years of independence social issues and social evila like dowry , female foeticide , maritial rape , domestic violence , rapes , gender bias, child marriage are still part and parcel of India.

The thriving and upcoming India needs contribution of women more than it ever did.  Women empowerment is the key to India’s goal of being developed nation. Without participation and respresentation of approx 50% of Indian Population how can India even think of becoming developed country?

Women Reservation Bill tabled today saw severe opposition from samajwadi party , RJD , Deve Gowda and few other parties. Now is there any thing to debate about this?. Its natural to have proper representation of woman. When Iraq can have 25% seats for women , giving 33% in India is certainly not a big issue.

Now coming to dalits , minorities which seems to be main issue fo sp , RJD.  Now kind of opposition they displayed in upper house shows how well mannered they are and how good they can do for minorities , women and general Indian masses. Never the less , they have a point about proper representation of all Indians which include dalits and minorities.

Now dalits and minorities concerns can be dealt with and must be dealt with. It can be worked out as it has been time and again worked out by constitution of India. Opposing the bill since 13 odd years has not helped any. Has it?. While congress has sonai gandhi , ambika soni , renuka and lot of other leaders who are woman , BJP has sushma swaraj as leader of opposition , Communist has bindra karat as strong voice , now same lalu , mulayam , gowda , how many strong woman voice to they have?. Why didn’t they give more tickets to women in these 13 years belonging to minority and dalit ?. They had that freedom and still have that freedom if they want to do it and are seriously interested in their stand.

Do You Support M F Hussain?

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Do you support m f hussain is what I was asked by a reader of this website. He added that most of my post reflect that I am liberal thinker , prime supporter of constitution and constantly questioning social system.

Well Yes I am prime supporter of Indian Constitution which I believe is one of best things that happened to India. Yes I am liberal thiker and I question what I think is wrong in social system.

Coming to M F Hussain.I do believe that threats to his life is wrong and no body has right to threaten anyone. If anyone has problem with anything he/she must approach constitutional bodies for it and taking law in one’s own hand is not acceptable.

Having said that I also belief that freedom of expression comes with rider and that rider means responsibilty. Responsibilty towards fellow human being, the country and the society in general.

Let us analyze M F Hussain controversy. The ace painter painted nude paintings of goddess saraswati , goddess laxmi , lord hanuman and sitaji.  This he did in late 70s but controversy erupted in 1996.

Now those who dont belong to hinduism faith , for them all above mentioned gods are simply characters and seeing them nude wont effect them much since they are not emotionally attached to them. Like a cartoon of muhammad peigambar fumed muslims but those who dont believe in Islam , it didnt effect them . So such cartoons or paintings dont effect people who dont believe in concerned figures since they are not emotionally attached to them which is understandable.

But for those who believe in hinduism for them these figures are gods and seeing them nude does effect them emotionally and reactions are understandable.

Now M F Hussain has freedom of expression right reserved by constitution , in same way citizens of India who felt that their sentiments were hurt have right to express that (not in violent way , though).

Coming to question of do you support M F Hussain?. Answer is I dont support his paintings. Freedom of expression doesnot give license to hurt sentiments of people at large. I cannot use my freedom of expression and write things which may disturb harmony, bring people to streets and endanger property and lives. I can’t use my freedom of expression to attack other’s sentiments and faith. I cannot do that. Being human being I must respect sentiments of others. Thats fundamental.

Yes if M F Hussain paints something questioning dowry , martial rape , caste and uses nudity in that , I am absolutely fine with it but painting characters which are part of psychic of so many hindus who worship these characters and expecting them of not feeling hurt in return is asking for impossible.

When muhammad peigambar’s cartoon were published , somebody asked me why the hell these people are reacting in that fashion. It’s just a cartoon. Yes it was just a cartoon for all those who dont believe in ISLAM but for those who did it was not just a cartoon . They felt hurt and reacted in way they knew.

Freedom of expression v/s sentiments of people needs balance. What’s use of art which cannot honor people sentiment and what’s use of such community which cannot give freedom to artist. Both need to maintain balance in their respective way.

Qatar has nothing to do with Hinduism and so can give citizenship to M F Hussain but same qatar respecting its citizen’s emotion might arrest a person who paints muhmaad in way which M F did to hindu gods.

Artists say that since they are artist and they need freedom to continue their work , which is fair point but at same time who supports this artists?. The people. People support them and so artist must understand that factor too.
