Ram Guha Indian Historian
During winter season , my eldest uncle usually comes to our place to stay. He is lawyer practicing in Allahabad High court. Allahabad normally freezes in winter and he heads towards relatively warmer west than staying in north.
As he came to my place this winter , he asked me to order weekly magazine. He prefers outlook while I usually read India today. We called our vendor and asked him to deliver outlook every week.
Yesterday as outlook magazine arrived the cover page immediately attracted me to read it. It had pic of Ram guha , noted historian and author of books like ‘Indian after Gandhi’ and ‘Makers of modern India’.
The article by Ram guha ran in number of pages and it was one of best articles I have ever read . Articulating what Ram thinks are enemies of Idea of India , Ram has done wonderful job .
What is Idea of India , what are challenges it faces are covered in detailed manner and for those who don’t like to read history , the article has been written is simple manner and every paragraph would take you to the event itself.
The article has been written not from premise of bias and is one of most unbiased pieces which I have ever read. It covers Hindu fundamentalism , naxals , separatist movement , corruption , congress’s role before and after Indira Gandhi , current challenges , founding father visions and above all Idea of India.
What makes India special , unique is this very Idea , the Idea of India which was impossible dream but is factual reality since 63 years.I strongly recommend this article.
India is not just a country , India is concept , India is a dream and India was made by people like maulana azad, sardar patel , subhash chandra bose , B R ambedkar , Gopalachari , Bhagat Singh , Chandra shekar azad , dada bhai navroji , annie beasant , sarojni naidu , hemu , lala lajpat rai , gokhale , sukdev , nehru to name few along with MAHATMA GANDHI. The idea of India is challenge which they under took and made it possible , gave us wonderful constitution to sustain it and now it is for us to make sure we have truly inclusive India where every one has equal opportunity .
