Fake Encounters In India

1) Place : GujaratIshrat Jahan, Javed Gulam Sheikh alias Pranesh Pillai, Amjad Ali and Jisan Abdul Gani were gunned down by Gujarat Police outside Ahmedabad on June 15, 2004, and now a magisterial inquiry report has found that the encounter was fake.

Gujarat government still maintains that encounter was not fake and would appeal against this report.

2) Place : Manipur

Official sources maintain the youth identified as Ch Sanjit (27) was a militant and killed in an encounter with police commandos on July 23 2009 at Imphal market complex, the social organisation claimed that he was innocent and killed in a fake encounter.

3) Place : Jammu & Kashmir

Jana Begum has seen tragedy over and over again. She says 10 years ago two of her sons were picked up near Kupwara by the State Task Force and the Border Security Force.

After a painful search, a policeman told Jana that her sons had been shot dead, and buried in a graveyard in Regipora.

4) Place : Uttar Pradesh

Bhagwati Devi’s son Badal was picked up by the UP Police in May last year and after days of torture, killed in a fake encounter in Ghaziabad.

5) Place : Delhi

Two buisness men were killed in day light by delhi police in 1997. The police planted some guns in their hands after they were killed to justify their murders. The case was later presented as a case of “mistaken identity” because the cops were caught out in their attempts.
All ten accused police men were punished by the court.

6) Place : Uttranchal

22-year-old Ranvir Singh from Ghaziabad was gunned down by Uttarakhand police after he allegedly fled with a revolver of a sub-inspector when stopped by police during checking.

With the autopsy report revealing that Singh was shot from close range and may have been tortured prior to the shooting.

CBI was asked to probe the case and primary report suggested that it was fake encounter.

7) Place : Maharastra

The Bombay High Court today said it would order filing of an FIR against the police officers involved in the allegedly fake encounter of suspected gangster Ramnarayan Gupta alias Lakhan Bhaiyya.

Lakhan was killed in a gunfight in suburban Andheri on November 11, 2006. His brother Ramprasad Gupta then filed a petition, alleging that it was a fake encounter.

This is very small list. sharbauddin case is famous and has not been included above. Above list has seven different places,
one common thing. Alleged Fake Encounters. Those who died were hindu or muslims but in the end human beings.

We need urgent police reforms . Home Ministry of India needs to have a workable plan for police reform.
