Crime Against Women In India

Crime Against Women In India

Crime Against Women is on rise in India. Though we have evolved as nations and are making tougher and tougher laws to curb crimes against women but that hasnt seen decline in crime against women. From shameful dowry deaths to molestation to rape to murder after rape , our great nation has to make collective efforts to curb the crime against women in India.

West Bengal leads the in famous list of most percentage crimes against women in India. It has had twenty nine thousand one hundred and thirty three  and contributes 12.7% reported crimes against women in India.Andra Pradesh is second in the list  . Wages for homemakers ? : Right Intentions But Wrong Solution

Women and Child Development Ministry has come up with proposal that is strange and unheard of in India. It proposes wages to homemakers. Intention of ministry is right but I dont think this is solution for what they intend to achieve.

Indian women (whether working or non working) both have 18 hour job in family which goes on without much of break entire year. In most families even when women is working women , she is expected to take care of family chores like cooking , washing clothes etc and if women is home maker (housewife) , she is expected to take care of everything related to home .

Holidays are more hectic for homemakers then usual days and it is also true to some extent that homemaker’s job is often taken for granted kinds and she has to depend on her husband to fulfill any desire which has money involved in it.

But giving wages to homemakers would be counter productive and far too complex. Women in house whether it is mother or wife or sister or daughter is motivated by love and service ,not by money. How to put price on priceless service?. I remember during my board exams , my mother use to get up at 4 am to make tea for me so that i can study and score marks. I remember countless night out my mother made when any one would be sick in family. Now can I put price tag on that?.

Ministry’s logic is that If one hires cook for cooking there is cost , If one hires domestic help there is cost,If one hires aiya or day care for kids there is cost . Now all these cost summed up would give some price to services a housewife offers.

The relationship involved is far too complex and it is impossible to put price tag on such pious relationship. Adding tag to priceless relationship is insulting the relationship itself.

Coming to ministry’s concern which is based on datas , there are ways and means to address those concerns. I am not hiding in our sanskaar and such goody goody talks. In same sanskari India , we see 8000+ dowry deaths yearly and more cases of domestic violence. In many homes husband spends more money on his liquor than on well being of his family. There are sufficient datas to support ministry’s concern but solution they are trying to implement is counter productive.

Intention is to empower Indian women and make sure she is included , valued , respected and economically secure. Instead of putting price tag , it would be better to work on making women aware about her rights , empowering her to be more assertive and making husbands more aware about immense contribution women play in their lives .

What are you views and comments on this new proposal from ministry of women and child development?

Guwahati Molestation : Lets Unite To Get These Men Pay For It…

Nail these dushashans

Shame of India

As I woke up this morning , I was shocked , angry, upset with what I saw. 20 animals attacking a minor . 20 animals which looked like human beings , dressed as human beings but had instinct of male animal or perhaps bull too respects choice of female animal…

My first reaction was to get hold of these 20 , strip them  on street and make them go through something similar to what this girl went through. I was so angry with the incident. If girl, woman are not free to walk down the streets in delhi or guwahati or mumbai , what the hell are we achieving?

The cases of eve teasing , molestation and rape are rising and we need to introspect on it and do something about it. Passing the buck on western culture doesnot change anything. Neither does adopting saudi kind of attitude does. What can make difference is revisiting and altering paradigm about how we as nation view women.

It pains me to see only nation in the world where feminine power of worshiped and only country which has goddess and 2 navratris to celebrate feminine power , in such great nation today every day newspaper is filled with cases of some woman being raped or molested or killed for dowry or abused…I understand that we are 120 crores and such cases would happen every now and then but what is alarming is that such cases are rising at rapid rate.

What we need is stronger and stricter laws . For e.g. rape should have jail term of 20 years instead of 7 years. Rape is murder of self respect , it is something which woman lives with entire life. Her trauma , her pain , her fears are something which take entire life time to deal in many cases. 7 years is too short a time for such crimes.Molestation should be dealt as threat to society and considered like wise.

Other than laws , we need to united as society , country to make sure such acts are treated with such outrage that no one dares to repeat such acts. It should be considered as social taboo and people who indulge in such acts must be socially isolated. Often rape victims are treated in such way , while it should be other way round.

I feel ashamed today with act which I saw as Indian. I feel sorry for the minor who went through hell in those half and hour. Lets Unite To Get These Men Pay For It.

Baby Afreen Death Is Muder , Brutal Murder…

Baby Afreen

Baby Afreen

Baby Afreen is dead. She survived only for three months in the world. Today she died and her death pained me. It brought depressive feeling inside me. I had mixture of emotions as soon as I heard the news. I was angry , very angry and am still angry. I became sad and felt sorry for the child.

Baby Afreen is not first girl in India to have paid price of being girl. As per official reports India has seen death of girl child in tunes of 2 million in last 20 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!. 2 million is huge huge number and guess what it is official figure.

Baby Afreen was not only killed , she was physically tortured. Cigarette burns on head , dislocated neck , bites on thighs , how in human one can be to a child who is just three month old. Also she was abused by her own father. Her pachat father wanted male child and when afreen was born , his frustration turned into in humaness and he did what even worst humans wont do and that is torture child.

Similar case had come to light few months back in form of baby falak. Is inhumaness on rise in Indian society?. Well this would be topic which would need another post .

Today as baby afreen leaves the world , she leaves behind many questions which needs to be answered. One of them is when would we as society grow up?. When would we stop acting as hypocrites ?. A country where feminine power is worshiped in form of goddess and in same country girl child is unwanted , often killed and tortured in worst cases like that of baby afreen. Hindu , sikh and muslim girls killed or married early and treated like bhoj in many parts of rising India. Ironic, isnt it?

When would we as society evolve into society which respects girl and understand their right place. We as Indians are very proud of our culture and it is our original culture which gave woman equal status . Something happened and in our corrupted culture important of male child took new significance and the virus in society of giving preference to male child unfortunately doesnot seem to die down.

I hope in future this virus would die so that baby afreens of future can live , can dream , can achieve their dream. Dear baby afreen , RIP.

8391 Dowry Deaths in 2010 – Shameful Statistics

Dowry

Dowry

I had written an article on social evils in India. In that article I had mentioned dowry as one of social evils which India needs to fight and eradicate totally. I had many comments on that article. The comments which amazed me most where from blind patriots. Now I am proud Indian. Very proud one. I love my motherland very much. It is my love for my country that makes me maintain this blog itself.

Now being in love with someone for me means being concerned about them at same time. Being proud of something for me doesnot mean turning blind eye towards betterment of same thing. For me India is one of best nations that humans have ever seen. The rich heritage , the continuous civilization , the people ….India has been home to all religions and some of best thoughts have come from India is philosophy. India is not just land , it is ground where human thoughts evolved and prospered.

Unfortunately in same land which is only place where god is also feminine and female power is worshipped twice a year in form of navratris , the same land has pathetic track record in treatment of women in many parts of India.

Let us look at some of shocking documented facts

-> 2 million daughters where killed in last 20 years in form of gender based abortion or killing at time of birth. ‘Missing Daughters of India’ is one of the tragic reality which we conveniently try to forget. Unfortunately in some places of India the social evil still prevails and no matter how much economically we have prospered this evil refuses to die.

Now let us look at national crime report published by Indian Home Ministry. In year 2010 total reported dowry deaths was 8391!!!!!!!!!!!!. Now this is approximately 30% more than deaths dowry caused in 2009…So as we are evolving every year in becoming better economy , gadgets, cars , a section of society wants all goodies at cost of their in laws and are trying to use short cuts by getting money from their in laws to elevate their financial status!!!!!!!!

Dowry for me is worst crime in relationship. If man doesnot have guts to take care of his responsibility of his family , wife , future kids and wants his inlaws to do what he is supposed to do , how does that man have right to get married?. When dowry gets involved in marriage , it is no more union of two souls but it is business. Plain business , when man marries a woman , gets money from in laws for her stay , her food and giving her , his name. Woman on other hand is supposed to bear kids , take care of her husband and also pay money for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!…Pathetic….

Ironically laws against dowry are in placed since 1960s now but still we see dowry deaths…Why?. Why law has failed ?. Some issues are too deep rooted and needs proactive measures from society at large. Role of parents of bride too is very important out here. When one gives money in exchange of marriage , it is likely that more demand for money can come in future. Instead of bowing down to so called social practice what we need is empowerment of woman . I hope this 8391 lives dont go in vain and serve as wake up call for all those who have daughters….
