Imagine you earning 10 crore per annum , have no accountability of outcome of your efforts and targets and in spite of that being continued to be paid in crores!!!!!!!

There are only two careers where this can happen , one is politics in which in spite of corruption same old faces keep coming back and another is cricket in which in spite of loosing 7 straight overseas matches , hype of cricketers continues.

Disaster is perhaps lesser word to describe India’s performance in england tour and current Australian tour. Aussies which had tough time against new zealand found Indian team too easy to beat. When team has likes of shewag , gambhir , laxman, dravid , dhoni and sachin tendulkar in its line up , that team seems too powerful to beat atleast on papers. But reputation counted little when India went to tour aussies. Instead of aussies fighting hard , it seems like cake walk for them.

Indian team played like college team not even club team . Getting fold in 2 days , 1 and quarter session in test match is something which even bangladesh wont be expected to do.

Spineless batting by batting greats that too for 7 straight matches is something which cannot be excused off. As India plays last test in australia , I as cricket fan hope , India survives five days . Shameful might be right word to be used for current level of performance of Indian cricket team…

Virender Sehwag Sirf Naam Hi Kaafi Hai

Viru , Nawab , Multan Ka Sultan….Virender Sehwag is known by many names but for most bowlers world wide , the name symbolizes only one thing and that is DEMOLISHER…

Virender Sehwag has some unique record to his name. Two triple hundred in test matches puts him on same stage as that of Sir Don Bradman, Brian Lara and Chris Gayles.

Virender Sehwag also has record of fastest three hundred in test matches. Three hundred in 278 odd balls…With five more years approximately to go , sehwag can become only batsman to have score three triple hundreds too…

Coming to one days the demolisher sehwag made it into another unique league and that is of becoming only second player to have hit 200 in the onedays…

With advent of T-20 it was expected that some one , some day would reach to 200 in onedays and who could have been better than Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar to do so and it is fitting that sachin’s record was broken by none other than Virender Sehwag who in his own words idolizes sachin…

Ironically when shewag had entered test arena , he was not considered to be good enough for test. Critics said he lacks foot work and does little movement of feet. He was also considered to lack temperament needed for test.

Sourav Ganguly , then Indian captain spotted the talent and offered him to open in test matches instead of sitting out because of over crowded middle order of India. As said rest is history. While most play by rule book , shewag wrote the book…. His brutal assault on bowlers made 100 in one session of test gettable. If shewag stayed for entire day 400 score in a day looked possible. Proving all critics wrong , shewag not just survived test but even changed the way test matches where played…

Virender Shewag’s cricket is simple. Hit the ball when you think you can hit. Bowler doesnot matter, ball doesnot matter, match situation doesnot matter, field placing doesnot matter. What matters is belief that the ball is there to be hit. Simple but brutal …

Yesterday what all cricket fans saw/heard/listened doesnot happen every other day. Yesterday was special for cricket. Can any one break shewag’s 219 record. Well yes and that person might well be shewag himself!!!!!!!!!!

What makes shewag equally exciting is his fearlessness. The man seems to know no fear. Whether he is on 96 or 196 or 296 , shewag would go for six without fearing of loosing weak. If FULL BLOWN SELF EXPRESSION is something which we carve for , shewag is manifestation of the same on cricket ground.

Sehwag is not perfect like rahul dravid as far as technique goes , neither he is elegant as v v s , nor he is sachin tendulkar . But this man doesnot need to be like any one else because there is only one virender sehwag in the world…

South Africa -Australia

Cricket is funny game goes the saying . Cricket which is national obsession in India and religion for many , showed its exciting possibility once again in southafrica v/s Australia test match.

Evey cricketer wants to play test cricket. Even though lately twenty-twenty has turned out of be money churner for cricket and one days too being one of most viewed format , test cricket is considered to be pinnacle of cricket.

Personally when ever i get time , i too love to watch test cricket. Test cricket is not just game of bat and ball , it is game of planning , game of mental application , game of toughness . Also in test cricket bowlers can show their bowling skills , since they are not as restricted as they are in 20-20 or onedays…

Yesterday was amazing for cricket. Southafrica v/s australia match was amazing. Australia Struggled in first innings but their captain clark showed resolve to post below par total of 280 in its first innings which got rapped up yesterday . Soon south african came to bat and australians pulled out awesome bowling performance , bowling out south africa for mere 96 runs…

While it looked like australia would easily build on the lead and in process put pressure on south africa and win the match , south africa came in with amazing bowling performances . What they produce was stunner and australia were 21/9 at one stage before the last wicker pair made 26 in their partnership and aussies finished at 47 all out!!!!!!!!

The match had two very different records in its kind

a) In single day we say four innings parts. Australian first inning which continued from previous day, south african first Innings , australian second innings and south african second innings part.

b) Another unique thing which we saw was the last batsman playing at 11th number being the highest scorer in the innings and how much did he score?…Well 14 runs….

Now would australia be able to do what south african did with them in second innings?…As this post is being written south africans are at 134/1 needing only 102 runs but as this match has shown anything is possible in cricket and who knows whats in store next.

The matches like this are needed to keep people getting into test mode once again. Be it be epic innings of v v s laxman of 281 or deadly spell like yesterday , these makes test really exciting and keep strength of cricket and that is unpredictability alive….Isn’t it?

Tainted Trio -Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif, Mohammad Amir

It is always good to find one’s name for winning matches , for one’s performance , for one’s contribution in matches if one is sportsman but the tainted trio of pakistan cricket team made news in 2011 for not their performance but for their corruption. They sold themselves for money. They sold their sports for money. They sold their nations pride.

It is not first time that scandal had hit cricket. It is not first time that fixing word has been associated with cricket. Bookies, big money and cricket have had their connection since long now.

The first cricketer to be banned on fixing charges was Saleem Malik and soon there after we had muhammad azharuddin , ajay jadeja and hansie cornje being charged and banned. Now saleem malik , azhar and cronje were not just another cricketer. They were legends in their own right. They were great players who were admired , idolized and loved for who they were . But these three sold the love , the admiration , the pride of their countries for green paper!!!!!!!!!

ICC woke up to new threat to the game and became more vigilant . It had wing called anti corruption wing . But as ICC devised means to stop the fixing , bookies devised to means to make money out of the game.

As we did see in match for which tainted trios made news , the accusation was not on fixing the match but on spot fixing. Money was paid not to give away the match but bowling no ball on exactly the over and ball which bookies wanted them too.

“Spot Fixing” is interesting concept and it is easy to convince players on it too. The match for which the tainted trios faced bans and would serve jail terms now , in same match mohammad amir was on fire. He had destroyed to order of england. May be his conscience was bitting him and his performance was sort of justifying the wrong he had done….

Ironically ICC’s anti corruption wing was found sleeping and it needed a journalist with sting operation to unearth this scandal. I wonder how many such scandals are still there to be unearthed because believing that only this match had spot fixing or only these three were involved and rest players are saint.

The reason why court verdict on these three is important is because it would set an example and players of every team would have fear in their minds for future such ill conducts.

Ironically the players are not very well paid and most players are crorepatis but it seems with so much money coming into cricket , cricketers sell their self along with their skills …

Among the tainted trio I loved asif accuracy and was big fan of mohammad amir too. I considered him to be one of most promising bowlers destined to be great bowler. Now as amir serves jail term and ban of five years , I feel for him but at same time he cheated and paid price of that.

Mohammad asif and salman butt’s career seemed finish as of now . Both are in late 20s and by time they serve their jail term and well as ICC ban , they wont have cricket left in them. As far as mohammad amir is concerned , we might see him bowling again , some day in future.

I love cricket . When i see bowler taking wicket , batsman hitting six , I love that but why I see the sports is because I believe that game is being played to best of player’s ability but when such incident occurs , I start doubting the game itself and this is robbing me from my love of cricket. I hope this tainted trio episode serves as warning for all players who ever got indulged in such acts.

This page in cricket is black spot not only for Pakistani cricket but for Cricket as whole…Let us hope 2012 brings news only for player’s performance than any such things…

Yuvraj Singh- Man Of Series World Cup 2011

2011 has been eventful year for Indian cricket. Having topped table in test arena , India were considered to be one of favorites to lift world cup 2011 which was held in subcontinent region. Pakistan unfortunately could not held matches due to ill fated attack on sri lankan cricket team while led ICC to take away matches from Pakistan. Pakistan cricket board was compensated though and world cup was jointly organized by sri lanka , India and Bangladesh.

As world cup was about to begin , one name was most discussed . The name was yuvraj singh. He had terrible year of 2010 and he was doubted , his ability was questioned and he was considered to be entry based on past records.

Interesting thing about Media , especially hindi media is that they make heros and zeros very easily. They add tadka of drama to make news spicy . Cricket being one of their favorite subject , fall of yuvraj was much shown news. His girlfriends , his party loving life style, his fitness , all came under scrutiny .

But fortunately for India , yuvraj was different player as soon as world cup started. Not only he was fit , he was at his best . The same old match winner yuvraj was back and he was back with addition of skill and that skill was bowling. Yuvraj has been part time bowler since long but in vanvaas (when he wasn’t picked) , yuvraj focused on being wicket taking bowler and he delivered on the big platform.

Yuvraj played very important role in entire series. He chipped him with his bowling , he scored runs , he saved runs. The match against Australia which was quarter final  saw yuvraj in role which suits him well and that is role of match finisher which he played to perfection.

He saw India home and the match saw Australia pack their bags and end the event earlier than what they would have liked to. The team which had won three consecutive world cups , was finally defeated and man at center of the story was yuvraj singh. Later he said that he used to visualize scoring winning runs against Australia in world cup finals.

Yuvraj singh also gave media much needed sound bites by his statement . He said that he is playing for a special person in the world cup. Media made 2 hours story from this statement which was shown 20 times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In finals yuvraj singh , the man in form was demoted down the order , while dhoni himself came to bat at fall of kohli. Dhoni pulled out one of best innings and  India went on to win the world cup and yuvi was made man of the series. Who was special person that yuvraj singh mentioned , well he was sachin tendulkar …

There are many lessons to be learnt from yuvraj singh. It is never easy to be criticized by all quarters and still manage to keep believing in one self.  It is not easy to be under immense pressure and still perform that too on ultimate stage. Yuraj singh did exactly that and we must applaud his focus, his determination and his dedication. Wishing him more success in the future…

Shahid Afridi

Shahid Afridi , naam hi kaafi hai!!!!!!!!!. Shahid Afridi is one of most famous cricketers ever.  Known as boom boom afridi , the man who did hit fastest century in one days , reinvented himself as lethal bowlers in last year. Accurate bowling and natural ability to hit the ball , afridi was promoted to be captain of Pakistan cricket team in world cup 2011.

Shahid afridi did a great job as captain in world cup 2011. Pakistan cricket management didnt help team much by delaying ‘captain banega kaun’ suspense. Secondly Pakistan team was hit by yet another scandal with three of its key players being barred from playing due to spot fixing allegations.

Still shahid managed to unite the team and make them reach semifinals which pakistan could have managed to win , if they could have managed to field well . Pressure of India v/s pakistan seemed to have taken over and pakistan lost the match paving way for India to lift the world cup 2011.

Pakistan cricket team won hearts in mohali. The way they carried themselves was well appreciated. The people in stadium were graceful and the kind of welcome prime minister of Pakistan , Mr Gilani received , it showed the mood of junta who prefer peace over enmity.

The match ended with much of feel good factor on both sides of border but….well it didnt last long enough. No sooner the team reached pakistan , shahid afridi made headlines in India yet again. The media which had hailed him before and day after the match , slammed him when he went to Pakistan..Reason?. Well shahid afridi made comments which no Indian can like , specially when Indians have had treated them with so much grace. He made comment that Indians are not as large hearted as Pakistani.

The comments were not taken lightly by Indians and shahid soon was seen giving interview to NDTV , trying to clarify his stands.

Kher reactions soon died down but shahid again made headlines and this time by announcing retirement!!!!!!!!!….

Indian cricket calendar is always full. BCCI knows how much India loves cricket and makes sure that they milk holy cow at any given opportunity. We have had world cup which we won then our team was made to play cash rich IPL , then sent to west Indies and then to england . Finally we are playing at home and are leading the series with 4-0 against same england which won one day series against us by 3-0.

In current one day series which is going on Indian team doesnot have following players :

1) Virender Shewag :

He is out due to injury

2) Sachin Tendulkar :

He too is injured.

3) Yuvraj Singh :

Injured

4) Zaheer Khan :

Injured

5) Ishant Sharma :

Again Injured.

6) Harbhajan Singh :

Dropped from the team…

The seniors we have in team are as follows :

1) Mahendra Singh Dhoni

2) Suresh Raina

If we count parthiv who has been in and out , pravin kumar and even virat kohli as senior then also we get 5 senior players while 6 youngster..

Inspite of seniors not in team India has done well . So what are top ten lessons which BCCI ,selectors and Indian cricket team can take from this series?

1) Bench Strength On Home Ground First :

We must test our bench strength on regular basis and that too on home ground conditions first. Quite often we sen young inexperienced players overseas , what we get in return in one ganguly , one dravid but many probable gangulies or dravids die out .

If we test young players on home conditions , chances of they gaining experience as well as self belief is more and then when they tour overseas , chances of they adapting and excelling increases.

2) Give Players Proper Rest :

It is good that youngsters are performing but having majority of players injured is not good thing to have. BCCI must understand that only healthy cows can be milked and cricket attracts viewers not just because of game but also the players. Having packed schedules dont let players take proper rest and can cause real damage to them as well as Indian cricket.

3) People Love Cricket But Too Much Cricket Can Kill Appetite :

We are crazy for cricket and from team to selectors to bcci to corporates know that. Keeping that in mind BCCI keeps calendar busy and corporates keep investing in cricket but as current series ticket sales show, too much cricket can really kill appetite. BCCI must learn this lesson while making calendars!!!!!!!!

4) We do get fast bowlers but.…

It was heartening to see varun aron bowl. Good line , good length and great pace. The way he bowled , that too on Indian pitch , it made made wonder how he would be in australia…But at same time what came to my mind was that we do keep getting fast bowlers but in couple of years they become more of medium pacers than fast bowlers… Lesson for BCCI and coach of Indian team is that we go get bowlers like varun but how we keep him in right direction , training he gets , physically fit he remains , now thats a challenge…

5) If player doesnot perform sack him …

There was lot of speculations that took place before Indian one day team was announced for the series. Would selectors sack harbhajan was one of prime question. Finally he was sacked and inspite of that we have done well. Ashwin has bowled really well and so has jadeja. Lesson is simple don’t go on past reputation , if player is not performing sack him.

6) Bowlers win matches too…

We are obsessed with our batsman. We love to see sixes and fours by batsman. In process we forget that bowlers can win matches too and in present series our bowlers have not allowed England to get big score barring one match.

Ganguly made very interesting point regarding Australian tour. He said he would be more curious to know about what preparations ishant,Praveen,rp,shreesanth ,varun are doing for aussie tour because without bowlers performing we cant win in Australia!!!!!!!

7) Thing Beyond Tendulkar and Zaheer Khan :

Now this may sound read heart breaking but point is that some or other day Great Sachin tendulkar would retire and so would zaheer khan. Both have hardly couple of years left in them . Sachin had served India since 1989 and zaheer has been backbone of Indian pace since years now but both would need to bid good bye and it can happen in near future.

Present series has shown that in absence of sachin we have virat ,raina who can provide need composure and in absence of zaheer , we have Praveen who can be supported by young bowlers like vinay and varun.

One Bad Series Doesnot Make Bad Captain :

When India won first match against India,  headlines today came up with headline called ‘Return of King’ with dhoni being their theme. I wondered how easily we bring any one down and how by winning one match same man becomes king again!!!!!!!!

Yes we lost terribly series in England but one bad series doesnot make a bad captain. Dhoni is considered to be successful captain because he has time and again delivered . Bashing him on loss of one series as if he is worst captain ever was good for trp but far away from facts…

Rahul Sharma

As one Rahul retired , another Rahul entered. Rahul Dravid retired from one days in last series which was against England. Now we have another Rahul , Rahul Sharma who would enter the scenes. I have seen Rahul Sharma in IPL. He is good bowler. What I like about him is his attitude. He would be good prospect for future and it is good that this 24 year old leg spinner from punjab gets place in Indian team.

But his entry to playing eleven wont be easy. Ashwin is shrewd bowler in one days and Jadeja can bowl as well as bat. Add to that jadeja is good fielder too.

I am in agreement of giving yuvraj , sachin tendulkar, zaheer khan and shewag. All are nursing injury and risking them would not have helped Indian cause as we did see in horror show called India’s tour to England.

Also parthiv and rahane have done decent job. India can open with parthiv and rahane with gambhir coming at one down as he does when shewag and sachin open the innings in one days.

Virat Kohli , Suresh Raina and M S Dhoni provide good middle order and ravindra jadeja can give good support as late order batsman along with Praveen Kumar.

But I am bit concerned with our bowling . Except Praveen kumar there is no medium pacer with experience. Wasim Akram has some real nice words for Varun Raymond Aaron who is 21 year old and has Indian record of bowling fastest delivery which was 153 km per hour. I dont know why he didnt play in england.

Having said that I have never seen him bowl and dont know what to expect from him. He would be bowling in Indian conditions. Coming to vinay kumar , I haven’t liked him much. He is mediocre bowler according to me.

Bowling is something which India needs to look into even for future prospects. Zaheer wont stay for another five years. He has couple of years left with him, then what?.

Munaf has been in and out , Ishant is not same bowler what he used to be (though he has lately recovered) , R P Singh looks disarrayed, Dont know what happened to ashish nehra.

Unless we pay attention to that , we are heading for era where we would pick any one who shows ability to bowl. We much have good bowling coach for bowlers as well as a systematic training program for them.

Coming back to coming series where England would play India , in India , here is list of the players who have been selected.

Sohaib Akhtar , the man who first name is controversy is back in news. After Retiring from international cricket , the fast bowler wrote book called ‘Controversial Yours’ . The book seems to be true to its title and created controversy before even it hit the stands.

Sohaib Akhtar in his book has written that ‘sachin tendulkar and rahul dravid were never a match winner to start with’ . He also cites one example stating that sachin was leaving his bowl instead of negotiating his pace.

Rahul Dravid has been back bone for India since long but unfortunately he was born in sachin tendulkar’s era and that makes him get over shadowed time and again. This time too he got overshadowed and people started debating that whether ‘sachin tendulkar is match winner or not?’.

First I would address Rahul Dravid. Every time Rahul has made century in second innings , India has gone to win the match or draw the match. Rahul was partner of epic innings with v v s laxman , the match which chanced how India perceived themselves and this are words of sourav ganguly. Impact of Rahul Dravid is huge and he has been anchor of Indian batting which makes him able contributor .

Now coming to sachin ramesh tendulkar. Let us see his career . He joined Indian team when he was in his sixteens. He got injured but still played and helped India drew the match. Slowly he became one man army and he had too much responsibility on his shoulders before dravids, laxmans,shewags,gangulys came in.

He is accused by akhtar of not being match winner. Rather he could have put that in different way. That would have been not a finisher than match winner. Sachin tendulkar opens in one days and his role is to get good start , not finish the game . That is role of m s dhoni and yuvraj and they have been good at it.

Coming to test matches , sachin plays two down and he has been good at it . How many matches he has finished in test matches.. It might be few..Yes he has stand tall to draw quiet a few but very few matches he has finished…

But coming to match winner point of view how do we define a match winner?. Was adam gilchrist a match winner?. Obviously he was. Is shewag a match winner , yes he is. Does he finish most matches , answer is NO.

Sachin tendulkar contributes in various ways to the team. Be it be guiding players on net or making youngster comfortable on ground , or giving inputs in right time in live matches. His presence elevates performance. This is other than he contributing with bat…

Being Match Winner means lot of ingredients together and only combination of them makes match winner. According to me sachin tendulkar’s contribution to Indian cricket is awesome and he has won matches , if not by scoring winning runs that by being there.

It was considered to be battle of equals. India V/s England series was dubbed as one of most exciting series of recent times. Media called the series as Champions V/s Challengers.

India was No 1 In test arena while world champions in one day format. England was rising in test rankings and it looked like England would prove good challenge to Indians.

But as series began rather than England proving to be challenge for India , India proved to be minnows against England. England dominated test series for word go and India looked like no match for them.

In cricket obsessed nation like that of ours , we often worship players especially batsman. Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar , Rahul Dravid , V V S Laxman , Gautam Gambhir , Virender Shewag , Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina , Rohit Sharma and Of Course captain marvel Mahendra Singh Dhoni (M S DHONI).

What we often forget that bowlers too are important in game of cricket and more so in over seas condition in comparison to flat pitches of India which are tailor made for our great batsman to flourish.

England series has been disaster for India so far where barring Rahul Dravid and few innings by v v s , dhoni and one odd inning by raina ,all batsman have struggled.

But as form has been question so have been fitness of INDIAN CRICKET TEAM. We have had 8 players who have got injured . Some where already injured but still selection committee went ahead in selecting them!!!!

Here is list of players who have got injured in the current series

1) Zaheer Khan :

If sachin tendulkar has been heart of Indian cricket , Zaheer Khan has been backbone of Indian bowling line up. Without him Indian bowling looks spine less . India got biggest blow of the series when zaheer got his hamstring pulled in very first match , very first innings. India didn’t recover from the blow and it showed how weak our side is without him. We can still win matches without any one distinguished batsman but without zaheer in the bowling attack , it becomes less probable for us to take 20 wickets in test format.

2) Ishant Sharma :

Ishant has got everything in him to make him lethal bowler. Ricky Pointing considered Ishan’t spell in one of matches against australia as one of best single spell he faced in long career. Ishant has not utilized his full potential and has been brilliant in bits and pieces but he along with zaheer can provide good combination. He is out due to Ligament injury in the left ankle.

3) Virender Shewag :

India missed him in present series. He was selected despite fitness issue. He had got operated due to shoulder injury. Sad part of story is he was suffering since long and had decided to get himself operated after world cup but his bosses of IPL didnt seem to like the idea and so shewag choosed to play for IPL rather than getting operated. Result is in front of us. Shewag is again out due to Shoulder injury and labyrinthithis of the left ear.

4) Gautam Gambhir :

He has been most consistent batsman in last two years for India. Like V V S Laxman he is expected to come up with solid innings in test arena. He got injured first in his elbow and was forced to sit out in next match. He again got injured when he got his head banged while trying to take a catch. Currently he is suffering temporary blur image and continuous headache hinder his ability to concentrate.

5) Yuvraj Singh:

Pappu can’t play test saala. The prince of Indian Cricket team who played extremely important role in India lifting the world cup 2011 , was found clueless against bouncers in front of england. He got fractured index finger as a result.

6) Harbhajan Singh :

He is expected to take wickets , especially after anil kumble call the day. But his form is under question and his ability to take wickets too is under scrutiny. Knowing harbhajan singh he would bounce back but as far as current series goes he has had disastrous tour taking only two wickets and giving 280 plus runs in two test matches.

7) Sachin Tendulkar :

Sachin tendulkar was expected to get his 100th century in this series. It didnt happen and barring for resolute 50 in one of test innings he looked far from his own self. He was ruled out on one day series due to toe injury.

Rohit Sharma :
