Impactful Journalism

Since entrance of private players in news channels , the highly competitive field of news has many stories , sub stories which are shown as news. While many news do matter to India some are simply non news like rakhi sawant , dimpy ganguly , salman-katrina , dhoni’s new hair style and deepika’s new looks. They do matter to millions fans though but it makes least difference to how they are general India lives , earns.

But news channels are 24 hour channels and have to show something. So above mentioned things can be said as fillers or spices needed to keep recipe right till main news comes into the arena.

Having said that news channels have done some really good jobs too by keeping pressure on government , exposing scams of corrupted politicians , officers , playing as catalyst for jessicas and ruchikas , exposing babas .

Here we would to like to mention special programs/initiative which news channel have done making an real impact .

First we would like to mention NDTV’s greenathon. Started last year this greenathon has been able to make difference to 180 + villages. Donations have poured from all across the country worth crores . These crores would be used to enligten house of 180+ villages using solar lanterns.

Special mention is needed for shahrukh khan , milind soman , priyanka chopra , hrithik roshan , cyrus broacha and many more celebs who participated in NDTV’s greenathon , contributing with money as well as moral support.

Another program which needs a special mention is CNN-IBN’s citizen journalist which give opportunity to normal citizen facing various issue become journalist and putting their issues across the nation. Citizen Journalist has made real impact with government , ngos taking notice of various cases and helping the victims.

Another initiatives which needs special mentions are super idols of ibn 7 which acknowledges and awards people with disability who are achievers. They are role models from all the Indians.

Similarly cnn-ibn and ndtv both have Indian of the year awards , gr8 has women achiever awards , india today has conclave and cnn-ibn along with hindustan times has leadership summits.

Another initiative of impactful journalism in divya bhaskar’s ward meets where mlas and people of his/her constituency are brought together on same platform. People can meet their mlas and put their concerns in front of them

Journalism is not just about selling news and such impactful initiatives does make difference.

Using Religion As Dangerous Weapon

What is most dangerous weapon in the world?. Is it nuclear bombs?. Is it sophisticated weapons?. No most dangerous weapon in human mind filled with conviction of distorted ideology.

Among many many advantages which a religion brings in human life , perhaps most dangerous thing it brings along is in tolerance. A mind convinced to kill and heart filled with hate is most dangerous thing in the world.

The times in which we all live terrorism , war on terror , jihad , suicide bomber are buzz words. Daily we hear news about someone blowing himself off killing 10s,20s,30s,50s people in somewhere in the world.

All this in name of merciful and all powerful god!!!!!!!. Human brain reprogrammed to hate with incentive of becoming martyr and promise of heaven.

Yesterday story of jihad jane made headlines all across the globe. An American who converted to Islam and went all the way to Europe to kill an artist before getting caught.

She was so convinced that she was ready to kill artist and risked being killed in process!!!!!!. Ajmal Kasab , the 20 odd teen is undergoing trial for mumbai terror attack. The less educated and thief , once upon a time went on killing spree along with another 9 people. He also killed people from his own faith in the process.

Using religion for political goals is not new and it is age old phenomena. History is filled with god-mans or religious head who have declared war on other nations or got their opponents killed in name of god , their faith.

Human brain who is programmed to kill and get killed in process is best killing machine one can get.

Ironically almost all religion believe in creator who is merciful , who loves people. Almost all religions believe in judgment day but many turn judge themselves!!!!!!!!!. Almost all religion believe that its god who created every human being but don’t shy away from killing fellow human being.

Using Religion As Dangerous Weapon , specially when world has been small place is something which needs to be addressed at earliest.

Issuing Whip In Largest Democracy!!!!!!!!!!

Women Reservation Bill is most important political news since a week. It saw 14 years of sheer opposition before getting finally passed by Rajya Sabha. Though it needed suspension of 7 members , adjournment of rajya sabha 9 times in two days and rare unity of left,right and congress for bill to get passed.

Loksabha too seems to see more fireworks and this bill won’t be tabled before union budget , railway budget’s debate and passage.

When would this bill be tabled in what media is speculating on but its clear that whip might be issued by BJP,CONGRESS AND LEFT to make sure that this bill gets passed.

What Is Whip?

Party leadership issues directive to its member who have to be present in rajyasabha/loksabha/assembly (where ever they have been elected to). Party leadership also issues directive about whether vote of each member would be against or for the bill or motion.

So whip is something which party issues cutting the democratic right of elected member (selected in case of rajyasabha).

The person who citizens of India consider good enough to represent them , doesnot have right to have his/her own independent opinion and has to adhere to party’s decision , irrespective of whether he believes in that or not.

It is strange that a country which is largest democracy sees issuing of such whips which itself means that party leadership dont believe in ability of its member to have right opinion on the issue!!!!!!!!!

Ironically it is also true that if whip is not issued many members would vote against the bill because when this bill becomes reality , 33% of them would end loosing their own seats!!!!!!!!!
